Here’s a chance for you to assist a worthy cause and help make sure some local girls aren’t prevented from attending prom because they can’t afford a dress.

Prom Fair 2012 is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at Tolleson Union High School. Girls who attend will be able to purchase a gown for $5 and jewelry and cosmetics for $2 each.

Here’s where West students – both male and female – can get involved. Volunteers are needed on the 25th to help the event run smoothly. Female volunteers will serve as personal shoppers for the high school students as they pick out their gowns and accessories, and males are needed to assist with security as well as event setup and breakdown.

Male volunteers also are needed the previous afternoon (Friday, Feb. 24) from 3 to 4 p.m. to help with unloading a truck with donated items.

On Saturday, volunteers are asked to work at least a four-hour shift between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Prom Fair is an initiative of Fairy Godmothers, a nonprofit organization.
